CONVOCATION HOUSE/SLICA:AUGUST-NOVEMBER 2011

The Sober & Lonely Institute of Contemporary Art (SLICA) is pleased to announce a new project entitled Oh My Oh My: from the annals of a great telepathic affair, that will be housed at Convocation House, Johannesburg from 1 August to 25 November 2011.

Since 2008 Sober & Lonely have been experimenting with telepathic connections through long distance thought transferral and close-range movement synergy related to the idea of 'telepathy'.  The overarching title of this project Oh My Oh My: from the annals of a great telepathic affair, comes, in part, from Kurt Vonnegut's novelBreakfast of Champions where he explores the release of precognitive and recognitive thought through 'telepathic butterflies'.

18 artists have been invited to propose work specifically for this project that will form part of a four month dialogue and experiment around notions of thought transferral, serendipity and telepathy. In order to create as concise a dialogue as possible, the artists were given a brief with a return slip to fill in and a R100 production budget to work with. A new work will be installed in Convocation House every Friday over the four month period.
